The tradition of porcelain manufacture in Thuringia can be traced back to the small town of Sitzendorf. In 1760 porcelain was discovered by Georg Heinrich Macheleid, independent from Böttger. Today, Sitzendorf is considered the birthplace of Thüringian porcelain. After only two years of operation in Sitzendorf, Macheleid was allocated a new production site in Rudolstadt-Volkstedt by the ruling duke of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, Johann Friedrich. The Sitzendorf factory was founded in 1850, and since then, the company has lovingly produced a variety of figures, decorations, timepieces and lamps. Exceptionally valuable pieces include figures with unique coatings or religious groupings such as the Last Supper.
