Reigning high over Bad Blankenburg is Greifenstein Castle, one of the largest feudal castles in Germany. The castle entered official records in 1208 as the ancestral seat of the Schwarzburg princes and counts, and as the birthplace of the German King Günter XXI. A fantastic view over the city and region is found from the castle tower. Visitor must-sees include the small castle museum and the castle tavern.
