First constructed as a simple cemetery chapel (the first reference dates from the 11th Century), since May 10, 2009 the freshly-renovated Schwarzburg Valley Church has shined with a new luster. The interior architecture radiates special warmth, while the roof and exterior walls are covered with genuine Thuringia slate shingles. The pulpit, built in 1712, is unique within Europe. Its surprising visual effect stems from a former contractor, who spent a long time living and working in Africa as a missionary.
